About Our School

Our Mission:
The Elizabeth Seton Montessori School is a private, not for profit, non-sectarian Pre-School, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten educational program founded in 1970. Our Mission is to provide:
- Educational services to children ages 2 1/2 through 6 years old based upon the Montessori Philosophy of Education.
- An age appropriate curriculum that respects independence and individuality while promoting social development.
- An environment that heightens the awareness of physical care of the person and their environment, the senses, the academics, the cultural and the artistic dimensions of the child.
- An alternative philosophy for education to families in this particular geographic area.
Our Philosophy:
What is the Montessori Approach to Education?
The core Montessori Philosophy is a respect for life, a respect for each other, a respect for our environment, and a respect for each child’s uniqueness, all leading to trust, which is essential for learning and growing.
Maria Montessori understood that a human contains within themself a series of sensitive periods, which are those times when an inner drive or passion for learning occurs. During, these periods, learning is more thorough, concentration is more intense, and enthusiasm leads to endless repetition. In a Montessori Prepared Environment consistency and dependability are the norm, allowing for active engagement and interaction with their environment at their pace, which leads to a positive attitude toward learning.
