Our Curriculum

The curriculum for each program provides age appropriate experience in daily living skills, sensory learning, dexterity, language development, mathematical skills, scientific discoveries, music and artistic expression.
Students of The Elizabeth Seton Montessori School receive a well rounded early childhood experience which encourages the child to be an independent, competent, responsible and caring individual. The Montessori Method encourages confidence through development of each child’s desire to “help me do it myself.”
The three year developmental program promotes inqusitiveness and cooperation such that each child attains knowledge from his or her own experience.
Our students grow into competent learners who know how to learn and love learning. This solid foundation begun early in life creates self-confident, contributing adults.

The 1st Year Student
(2 ½, 3 and Young 4 Year Olds)

Practical living activities and materials provides a link between home and school. Children work on developing their social and gross motor skills with defined limits and are introduced to numbers and letters.  Children also receive direct or immediate goals by performing the activities which serves an indirect purpose of laying the foundation for future work and learning.

The 2nd Year Student
(3 & 4 Years Old)

A half day program fostering self-preparation for learning and developing skills in concentration, sequence and pre-reading skills.  The 2nd year student will interact more with cognitive materials requiring a deeper thought process.

Pre-Kindergarten
(Older 4 & 5 Year Olds)

The Pre-Kindergarten Program is designed to prepare a 4 & 5 Year Olds for the following year of Kindergarten.  It prepares the students for a longer day.  Children in this session can identify numbers 1-10, some letters and recognize some letter sounds.  They are practicing their writing skills, can follow simple directions and can sit for a teacher guided lesson.

Kindergarten Student

Depending on your child’s birthday, some families choose to have their child attend both the Montessori Program and a traditional Kindergarten the following year. Children within Kindergarten have basic knowledge of numbers 1-100, are doing math function activities, are able to recognize half of the letter sounds in preparation for reading.  Kindergarten students can write their numbers and letters and sit and listen to verbal directions for an extended period of time.
